Between the mountains and foothills of Snowdonia, and the dunes and sea of Llyn Peninsula, Harlech is most famous for its medieval fortress, Harlech Castle, built by the English King Edward 1 in the 13th century and is now a World Heritage Site. The town has many cafes, little shops and restaurants as well as Harlech Leisure centre with its swimming pool, badminton court and fitness centre.
Harlech is in the West of Snowdonia National Park, with beautiful scenery all around. The park looks up to the Welsh mountains, including Snowdon – which particularly looks picturesque during sunrise or when the peaks are snow coated. Those who enjoy outdoor adventures, there are plenty of walking and cycling tracks in the area, including the Roman Step Walk. As well as nearby centres that offer water sports and other outdoor pursuits. For those that enjoy the more relaxed hobby, Royal St David’s Golf Course is directly opposite the park and owners benefit from a discounted membership. Take a ride on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Steam Railway which runs through 40 miles of the wonderful Snowdonia National Park, allowing you to experience the superb scenery in comfort.
Harlech is a medieval coastal town, with plenty going on and lots of character. Only a five-minute walk away from Min Y Don is Harlech Beach, with four miles of beautiful fine golden sand and blue sea, four-legged friends are welcome on the beach. The town of Harlech boasts many little treasures, including the Castle Gift Shop, and Hufenfa’r Castell, the delicious ice cream shop. The most iconic site of Harlech is the Castle, which stands bold on the bank looking over Min Y Don.
The bustling seaside town of Barmouth nearby, with its many shops and traditional seaside amusements, is a short drive away to the south.
